About the exhibition Zanele Muholi. We Are Here:
FOTO ARSENAL WIEN is pleased to present Zanele Muholi. We Are Here, the first solo exhibition dedicated to the work of the South African photographer (b. 1972 in Umlazi) in Austria. Over 120 photographs, videos, and archive material from more than two decades show Muholi’s work as a visual activist to increase the visibility of Black LGBTQIA+ communities. The exhibition addresses identity, gender, memory, and representation and invites viewers to question existing images and perspectives. An accompanying program with tours, workshops, and cooperations explore topics such as queer visibility and social participation.

About the exhibition Eric Asamoah. As Our Hearts Bow:
Austrian photographer Eric Asamoah (b. 1999 in Linz; based in Vienna and Paris) explores questions of identity, memory, and representation–influenced by transnational perspectives and experiences within the Ghanaian diaspora. Asamoah’s new project, As Our Hearts Bow (2026), combines personal and archival approaches: Photographs from family albums of the 1970s to 1990s, most of which were taken by the women in his family, are juxtaposed with a conceptual series that shows the shoes of his grandmother Lucy. Bearing the visible traces of time and experiences, the aged leather surfaces serve as silent witnesses of an eventful life.
The exhibition is accompanied by the publication As Our Hearts Bow, published by Distanz Verlag, Berlin.
