In his work, Austrian photographer Eric Asamoah (*born in 1999 in Linz, lives and works in Vienna and Paris) explores questions of identity, memory, and belonging—shaped by transnational perspectives and lived experiences within the Ghanaian diaspora.
Asamoah’s new project As Our Hearts Bow (2026) combines personal and archival approaches: photographs from family albums dating from the 1970s to the 1990s—mostly taken by the women in his family—are juxtaposed with a conceptual series featuring the shoes of his grandmother Lucy. Their aged leather surfaces hold visible traces of time and experience, quietly bearing witness to a layered life.
The exhibition is accompanied by a publication from Distanz Verlag, Berlin.
