Artist Tour

What remains of a life? How do memories change when they are passed down from one generation to the next?

As part of an Artist Tour, Austrian photographer Eric Asamoah (b. 1999 in Linz; based in Vienna and Paris) guides visitors through his exhibition As Our Hearts Bow. He offers personal insights into the making of the works and discusses his artistic engagement with memory, family history, and the traces of lived experience.

His new project, presented at FOTO ARSENAL for the first time, combines personal and archival approaches: Photographs from family albums of the 1970s to 1990s, most of which were taken by the women in his family, are juxtaposed with a conceptual series that shows the shoes of Lucy, his grandmother. Bearing the visible traces of time and experiences, the aged leather surfaces serve as silent witnesses of an eventful life.
