Fear of Mirrors. Alba Zari

Book Talk

In her publication Fear of Mirrors (Yogurt Editions & XYZ Books, 2025), artist Alba Zari examines how female identity is shaped by social conditioning and continuously renegotiated within digital spaces.

Combining photography, research, and experimental approaches, Zari engages with the visual language of the internet, exposing the mechanisms of platforms and algorithms that reproduce and normalize aesthetic standards. From the mirror to the screen, she reveals how gestures of beauty and female self-representation—often perceived as acts of personal choice—are deeply embedded in patriarchal cultural scripts and systems of control.

With BOOK TALKS, FOTO ARSENAL WIEN is expanding its programme with a new series dedicated to the presentation and discussion of photobooks.
