What Is a Portrait? And How Do You Photograph Famous People?

In this workshop, Peter Rigaud takes an in-depth look at the interplay between the photographer and the person being portrayed — an exchange shaped by presence, expression, and atmosphere. Light, perspective, and image composition not only interact with one another, but also shape that fleeting moment and give a portrait its distinctive impact.

The workshop offers participants the opportunity to further develop their own photographic style and use it consciously — regardless of whether they are working in the studio or at a location of their choice.

Peter Rigaud was born in Salzburg in 1968 and currently lives and works in Vienna and Berlin. A workshop led by Martin Parr marked his first introduction to the world of photography. He subsequently studied Photo Design at the renowned Lette-Verein in Berlin and worked as a photographic assistant in New York City, Chicago, and Cleveland.

In 1996/97, he lived and worked in New York City, and since 1997 he has been working as a freelance photographer in Berlin and Vienna. His photographs regularly appear in international magazines and publications such as Vogue, Die Zeit, SZ Magazin, Der Spiegel, Stern, The Times, The New York Times, and many others.
