Fourteen Leaves and a Cup of Water

Book Talk

Dutch artist Michelle Piergoelam talks with curator Marit Lena Herrmann about her new book Fourteen Leaves and a Cup of Water. In it, the artist explores the botanical knowledge of enslaved communities in Suriname, combining historical sources with current research. The sharing of plant and healing knowledge emerges as a survival strategy, a form of self-empowerment, and a form of resistance against slavery and colonialism.
